Captain William Henshaw - Biography

William Henshaw was born May 4, 1743, the son of Nichols and Rebecca Smith Henshaw. He was a bondsman for Adam Stephen (the first High Sheriff of Berkeley County) in 1722. In 1772 he helped organize Berkeley County and later, Gerrardstown.

William Henshaw served in the French and Indian War under General Braddock. He was in the battle of Point Pleasant, October 10, 1774, and was present at the signing of the peace treaty.
